Privacy Policy

Advance Deutsch ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains what data we collect when you visit advancedeutsch.com, how we use it, and what rights you have over it. We will never sell your personal information to third parties.

1 What we collect

Depending on how you interact with the site, we may collect:

  • Usage data — pages visited, time on page, referrer URL, browser type, and approximate location (country/city level) via analytics tools.
  • Email address — if you subscribe to our newsletter or contact us directly.
  • First name — optionally provided when signing up for the newsletter.
  • Form submissions — any message you send through a contact form.
  • Cookies & local storage — used to remember preferences (e.g. which mock exam you last attempted) and to deliver analytics. See Section 4 for details.

We do not collect payment details — this site has no paid features at this time.

2 How we use your data

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate and improve the website, mock exams, and blog content.
  • Send the Advance Deutsch newsletter (only if you opted in).
  • Respond to your enquiries sent via email or contact forms.
  • Understand aggregated usage patterns so we can prioritise new study resources.
  • Comply with legal obligations where required.

We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling in any manner that has a legal or significant effect on you.

3 Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, our legal bases for processing personal data are:

  • Legitimate interests — analytics and site improvement, where your interests and rights do not override ours.
  • Consent — newsletter subscription and non-essential cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Contract performance — responding to your direct enquiries.

4 Cookies

This site uses the following categories of cookies:

  • Strictly necessary — required for the site to function (e.g. CSRF tokens). Cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics — we use Google Analytics (GA4) with IP anonymisation enabled to understand how visitors use the site. You can opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by declining cookies in our consent banner.
  • Advertising — we may display Google AdSense advertisements. AdSense uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com.

5 Third-party services

We use third-party services that may independently collect data according to their own privacy policies:

  • Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager — analytics and tag management.
  • Google AdSense — display advertising.
  • Mailchimp / ConvertKit (or similar) — newsletter delivery. Only your email address and first name are shared.
  • WordPress.com / hosting provider — web hosting infrastructure.

We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these third parties directly.

6 Data retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected. Newsletter subscriber data is held until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained in accordance with the default retention settings of each analytics provider (typically 14 months for GA4 user data).

7 Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Object to or restrict processing.
  • Withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing already carried out).
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8 Children's privacy

Advance Deutsch is intended for general audiences aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a minor has submitted personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

1 No official affiliation

Advance Deutsch is an independent exam-preparation resource. We have no affiliation, partnership, sponsorship, or endorsement relationship with the Goethe-Institut, the ÖSD, or any other official examination body. The Goethe-Institut and Goethe-Zertifikat are registered trademarks of the Goethe-Institut e.V. References to these marks on this site are purely descriptive.

2 Accuracy of content

We strive to ensure all content — including mock exam questions, grammar explanations, vocabulary lists, and blog articles — is accurate and up to date. However:

  • Exam formats, question types, and scoring criteria set by the Goethe-Institut may change without notice. Always verify current exam specifications on the official Goethe-Institut website.
  • Grammar rules and linguistic examples are provided for study purposes and may represent simplified explanations of nuanced topics.
  • Blog posts represent the views and research of our editors at the time of writing and may not reflect subsequent changes.

We make no warranty — express or implied — that any content on this site is complete, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose.

3 No exam score guarantee

Completing mock exams and study materials on Advance Deutsch does not guarantee any particular outcome in the actual Goethe-Zertifikat A1 examination or any other language test. Results depend on many individual factors including prior knowledge, study habits, and exam conditions on the day. Our materials are tools to help you practise — they are not a substitute for thorough, well-rounded preparation.

4 Third-party links & resources

This site links to third-party websites, including the official Goethe-Institut site, language-learning resources, and other study aids. We have no control over the content, accuracy, or availability of those sites. Listing or linking to a third-party resource does not constitute endorsement. We recommend verifying any third-party information independently before relying on it.
